Beach Driving Permit

Upon purchasing a permit, be sure to pick up a map denoting areas open to beach driving.

Beach Pit Fire Permit

Beach pit fires are allowed on Nags Head's beach with a permit from the Fire and Rescue Department.

Building Permit

If you plan on building, remodeling, repairing or taking on a handyman project, your first move should be to check with the Building Inspectors and Zoning Officials in the Planning and Development Department. Please note that if your are a contractor, there are some types of building permits you can now apply for on-line. Please contact us to see if your project qualifies.

Crowd Permit

A Crowd Permit Application, if required, shall be submitted to the town manager by any person, group or organization sponsoring an outdoor performance or event which is expected to draw 100 or more participants and spectators.

Apply for a Trade Permit, certain types of Building Permits or search open/closed permits applied for since January 2019. You will need to set up an account to search for permits and have an assigned Contractor ID from the Planning Department to apply for permits.

Short-Term Rental Registration

The Town of Nags Head’s registration program for Short-Term Rentals (i.e. Airbnb's or VRBO’s, etc.) is now active. Short-Term Rentals can involve the rental of a whole house or a portion of a resident-occupied house. Short-Term Rentals are required to be registered, with some exceptions.
