Curbside Bulk and Brush Collection Begins October 2 2023

Nags Head's curbside collection of bulk items and brush starts Monday, October 2, 2023. 

Bulk Trash Accepted

Note:  tree and shrub trimmings must originate from an improved residential lot.

Note:  Any materials generated from a Contractor or large homeowner projects; materials can be taken to the Dare County Transfer Facility Manns Harbor Transfer Station located at 1603 Cub Road, Manns Harbor. Please contact them at 252-473-2059 for more information.

Note: For curbside collection of materials, piles must be within 10 feet of the roadside and must NOT be located under, or near, low hanging trees, branches and/or utility wires/cables.

Note:  Dare County's Public Works facility on Roanoke Island at 1018 Driftwood Drive accepts:

  • used tires (removed from the rim)
  • motor oil
  • lead acid automotive batteries
  • residential yard debris (branches for chipping up to 8 inches in diameter)
  • straw
  • pampas grass and leaves 

They will also compost and recycle some items, in addition to providing a household hazardous waste collection during certain times of the year.

If you need to dispose of bulk trash immediately, take your items to our bulk/brush drop off yard at 2200 Lark Avenue. Drive west on Eighth Street, take a left onto Lark, and the yard will be on the left, just after the concrete plant. The yard is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, and on Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm.

You must have a permit to use this yard; a one-day permit is available.
