Note: Dare County's Public Works facility on Roanoke Island at 1018 Driftwood Drive accepts:
- used tires (removed from the rim)
- motor oil
- lead acid automotive batteries
- residential yard debris (branches for chipping up to 8 inches in diameter)
- straw
- pampas grass and leaves
They will also compost and recycle some items, in addition to providing a household hazardous waste collection during certain times of the year.

If you need to dispose of bulk trash immediately, take your items to our bulk/brush drop off yard at 2200 Lark Avenue. Drive west on Eighth Street, take a left onto Lark, and the yard will be on the left, just after the concrete plant. The yard is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, and on Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm.
You must have a permit to use this yard; a one-day permit is available.
