Construction is in progress to replace waterlines and improve drainage along the South Memorial Avenue corridor. Below is a brief description of the work.
- Watermain replacements are scheduled along South Memorial Avenue between Ario Street and Atlas Street. Additional replacements are scheduled along Ario Street, along the length of Albatross Street and along Atlas Street.
- Cross street storm pipes are scheduled to be replaced at the following intersections along South Memorial Avenue: Albatross Street, Atlas Street, Driftwood Street, Gallery Row, Abalone Street, Bonnett Street and Bittern Street. Additional drainage extensions are proposed to the existing drainage network at Gallery Row through to South Wrightsville Avenue, Albatross Street, Bonnett Street and Bittern Street.
- In the Fall 2025 street resurfacing is proposed along the South Memorial Avenue corridor from Bittern Street to Eighth Street, Ario Street, Albatross Street including the beach access, Atlas Street, Driftwood Drive, Gallery Row, Abalone Street, and Gannett Avenue.
June 6, 2025 Update
- Bittern Street and South Memorial Avenue - A cross street storm pipe is being replaced on the south side of the intersection. This should be completed June 6, weather permitting.
- Bittern Street and South Memorial Avenue - A cross street storm pipe will be replaced Monday, June 9, on the north side of the intersection.
- South Memorial Avenue and Atlas Street intersection - A cross street pipe will be replaced mid week next week.
- Waterline work is currently taking place in the 2600 block of South Memorial Avenue. This work is expected to be completed by mid week next week. Once completed, the waterline work will move over to Ario Street to begin the water main replacement. Weather permitting, this work should only take a week to complete. Then, work will move to Atlas Street and then Albatross Street.
May 22, 2025 Update
- Bonnett Street/South Memorial Avenue intersection- existing storm pipe replacement and extension has been completed at this location. Stabilization and roadway patching remain to be completed.
- Bittern Street/South Memorial Avenue Intersection- existing watermain work was recently completed in advance of the drainage replacement work. Storm drainage replacement work is tentatively scheduled to begin on or around May 28th and extend for approximately a two-week period, weather permitting. Work in this area will require temporary street closures.
- Albatross Street/South Memorial Avenue Intersection- existing cross-street culvert pipe and inlet box have been replaced. Pavement patching and stabilization remain to be completed.
- South Memorial Avenue spanning from Atlas Street to Ario Street- The existing asbestos-cement (AC) water main is being replaced from just south of the Atlas Street/ South Memorial Avenue Intersection through to immediately north of the Ario Street/ South Memorial Avenue intersection. This work is expected to continue through the end of next week. No work will be conducted on Memorial Day. Once the new watermain is installed and operational, customers will be switched over to the new water main. Additional notification will be provided when this is scheduled.
- Ario Street- The existing AC water main is being replaced along the length of Ario Street. This is expected to occur the week of June 2nd, weather permitting. Once the new watermain is installed and operational, customers will be switched over to the new water main. Additional notification will be provided when this is scheduled.
- Albatross Street- The existing AC water main is being replaced along the length of Albatross Street. This is expected to occur the week of June 9th, weather permitting. Once the new watermain is installed and operational, customers will be switched over to the new water main. Additional notification will be provided when this is scheduled.
- Atlas Street- The existing AC water main is being replaced along the length of Ario Street. This is expected to proceed once Albatross Street is complete. Once the new watermain is installed and operational, customers will be switched over to the new water main. Additional notification will be provided when this is scheduled.
- Driftwood Street/South Memorial Avenue Intersection- existing storm pipe replacement is in progress. The north/south pipe replacement along the east side of the Driftwood Street/South memorial Avenue is nearly complete. Once finished, there are (2) additional east/west pipes, one on the north side and one on the south side of the subject intersection.
- Remaining Storm Drainage Work- Existing storm pipe replacements are scheduled at the intersection of Atlas Street/South Memorial Avenue, at the intersection of Albatross Street/South Memorial Avenue and at the intersection of Gallery Row intersection with South Memorial Avenue extending through to South Wrightsville Avenue.
