ATV Use for Disabled Persons

Unable to Fish From the Beach Because You Are Disabled?

Effective October 7, 2009, disabled individuals, with a required Town permit, may use an all terrain vehicle (ATV) to access the beach between October 1 and April 30 to fish.

To apply for the $100 (or $50 owner/resident) permit to use an ATV on the beach to fish, a disabled individual must present the following to the Nags Head Police Department (also view a checklist of documents required to receive this permit (PDF)):

  1. Completed and notarized Application to Drive an ATV on the Beach in Nags Head (PDF) (application can be notarized by Police Department personnel during permitting process)
  2. Proof of disability from a licensed physician (if you are a disabled vet, a certification from the Department of Veterans Affairs is acceptable)
  3. Proof of ownership of the ATV
  4. Proof of insurance on the ATV
  5. Copy of their driver’s license
  6. Copy of their NC Saltwater Fishing License

Permits cover one beach driving season, which is between October 1 and April 30 of each year.
