SVDT and SOOIR Sanitation Cart Rollback Service

Starting May 1, 2022, Nags Head will begin an enhanced sanitation cart rollback service for properties with driveways on South Virginia Dare Trail and South Old Oregon Inlet Road. From May 1 through October 31, the Town’s contractor, Trash Detail, will move a property’s sanitation carts from the home to the streetside the afternoon before collection and return them to the home after collection. Since the collection is twice per week, the contractor will be visiting each property four times a week for the six-month service period.

Note that outside of the May 1 to October 31 timeframe, carts will not be managed by Trash Detail; therefore, cart management will again be the responsibility of the homeowner, renter, or rental management company. During this time, our staff will move carts back from the right-of-way; however, they do not return them to the home.

There will be a fee for this service which will appear on your annual Town of Nags Head tax bill. The fee will be as follows:

Number of BedroomsPer Property Cost
4 or less$100
5-6$250
7 or more$425

Service Exclusion
We understand that some of our property owners live in their homes year-round and therefore can easily manage their sanitation carts. If this is the case with your property, you can opt-out of this program for the upcoming six months by filling out the exclusion form by June 1, 2022.

Unless you have an alternate and reliable means to move carts back and forth, we strongly recommend that all non-resident property owners participate in this service.
