Drainage construction work will begin along the 100 block of W. Danube St. and along the north/south portion of W. Old Cove the week of February 15, 2021. Storm drain pipe material and structures will be temporarily staged with the Danube St. and along a portion of the W. Old Cove right-of-way beginning Friday February 12, 2021.
The scope of construction work will consist of replacing the existing storm drain along the south side of W. Danube St. and along a portion of the north side of W. Old Cove Rd. The intent of this work is to replace an aged and failing storm system with a high-performance, more durable and resilient pipe material. Temporary road and lane closures can be expected while active construction is in underway.
Once this section storm drain is replaced, a branch network will be installed, extending from W. Danube St. through to Kipper Ct. The proposed improvements will provide a connection between the two sections of the neighborhood, permitting reduced depth and frequency of flooding in the Kipper Court.
A third and separate storm drain replacement project is located at the intersection of E. Barnes St. and S. Wrightsville Ave. This project will replace several sections of failing storm pipe within and around this intersection.
Hatchell Concrete Inc. of Manteo, NC will be performing the construction subcontracted services.
