[ARCHIVED] Double Red "No Swimming" Flags Posted in Nags Head September 30, 2025

Double Red

Double red "no swimming" flags are posted on Nags Head's beach today, September 30, 2025, due to strong northeast winds and large swells from the tropical systems offshore.

When double red flags are flying, swimming in the Atlantic Ocean is prohibited until dangerous conditions subside and the red flags are lowered.

Swimming means any entry into the Atlantic Ocean, whether assisted by a raft, an inflatable device, or anything similar in nature. This does not include any entry assisted by a surfboard or bodyboard and fins.

In case of ocean related emergencies dial 911.

For more information contact Nags Head Fire and Rescue at 252.441.5909.

The last two lifeguard stands, at the Bonnett and Gulftream beach accesses, are being removed this morning. Through October, we will have roving guards on stands; however, this may change due to staffing levels.
