Background Information
Effective 8 a.m. on Friday, March 21, the North Carolina Forest Service has issued a state-wide ban on all open burning until further notice. Dry conditions have increased the risk of fire. No beach pit fire permits will be issued during the ban.
The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. A local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within that 100 feet space, but this is not in effect.
