MLK Day Sanitation Collection and Office Schedule

As a result of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19, we have made changes to our residential (Blue Route only) and commercial trash collection routes. In addition, all Town administrative offices will be closed on January 19.

Trash collection on our Blue Route will be rescheduled from the usual Monday collection to Tuesday, January 20. There will be no changes to the Thursday, January 22 collection.

Trash on the Green Route will be collected as usual on Tuesday, January 20 and Friday, January 23.

For commercial customers, trash collection will occur on Tuesday, January 21, in place of the Monday collection.

TFC Recycling's curbside recycling service will operate as scheduled, with no changes to collection times.

The bulk item/brush disposal yard will be closed that on Monday,  January 19.

The  Coastal Studies Institute will host two community forums on a proposed Wave Energy Research for Remote Coastal Communities project on January  21 at 6 p.m. and on January 22 at 10 a.m. The forums are expected to last about 90 minutes.

The forums will include:

We can’t wait to see you at the market!

Styrofoam doesn't belong in recycling containers.

Can you spot what doesn't belong in recycling containers? It's the Styrofoam!

Common Styrofoam items that do NOT go in recycling bins:

  • Takeout food containers
  • Coffee cups
  • Meat trays
  • Packing peanuts
  • Protective packaging for electronics (pictured here)

If have extra recycling needs, feel free to use the recycling containers at Nags Head's town hall, which are available 24/7/365. We have containers at our Public Services facility on Lark Avenue in the north end of town. They are available M, T, Th, F, and Sat 9 am - 3:30 pm.

Thanks for recycling!

View a reference guide on what can and cannot go into our recycling containers.

If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at Town Hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our Public Services facility (2203 Lark Avenue), be sure to subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is $13.35/month.
