September 25, 2025 Tropical Weather Update for Eastern North Carolina from the NWS.

We continue to monitor Invest 94L in the Caribbean, which is likely to strengthen in the coming days, in addition to Humberto out in the Atlantic.

What Do We Know at this Point?
Humberto will remain offshore, but will bring long period, powerful swell to our beaches Monday onwards. The highest impacts are likely Tuesday and Wednesday.

The risk of impacts from Invest 94L are increasing for portions of the Southeast U.S. Inland impacts associated with 94L are possible, but are heavily dependent on the track and intensity.

What Don't We Know?
The track, intensity, and timing of Invest 94L.

Be sure to get your weather information from trusted sources such as the National Hurricane Center and our local National Weather Service Office.  There is still a lot of uncertainty with 94L at this point, as the system has not even formed yet. While there is a lot to iron out, the risk of impacts to SE US is increasing, so at this point make sure to know your risks, stay tuned for updates, and sign up for OBX Alerts.

Note that the next briefing will be before 6 p.m. today.

Recycle right: no yard debris in recycling.

Remember: leaves, grass clippings, weeds, sticks, branches...none of these go in the recycling bin.

If you are a Nags Head property owner, you can either take these to our Bulk/Brush Drop-Off Yard (a permit is required) or, from October 1 through April 30, you can place them by the side of the road for curbside collection. Note: if you are placing them out for curbside collection, leave the brush and leaves unbagged. Also, be sure to check where we are in our collection/sweep schedule prior to placing anything by the side of the road.

Thank you for recycling right!

View a reference guide on what can and cannot go into our recycling containers.

If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at Town Hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our Public Services facility (2203 Lark Avenue), be sure to subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is $13.35/month.
