Nags Head Elementary - Officer "DeeDee"

Dare County's schools are back in session, so be sure to watch for little feet in the crosswalks and bright yellow buses on the roads. Also, SLOW DOWN in the school zones, including the one in front of Nags Head Elementary.

Officer Dilyana "Dee Dee" Gnafakis is Nags Head Elementary's new school resource officer, taking over for "Officer Shane", who will be retiring soon. If you see "Officer DeeDee" out and about, be sure to introduce yourself.

Labor Day Sanitation and Office Schedule

There is no change to our sanitation collection schedule (including curbside recycling) due to the Labor Day holiday.

All Town administrative offices will be closed Monday, September 1. Our bulk item/brush collection yard will also be closed that day.

A reminder: the curbside bulk item/brush collection service begins again October 1. Please do not place items out for collection prior to that date. Thank you!

National Fire Protection Association - Time for a Safety Check

Smoke alarms are your first line of defense in a fire, but only if they’re working properly.

Do this to make sure they’re ready in case of an emergency:

  • Test your smoke alarms monthly
  •  Replace batteries if needed
  •  Replace the alarm if older than 10 years

Not sure how old your alarm is? Check the manufacture date on the back!

Aluminum cans are absolutely recyclable, but paint cans are not.

Have you been working on a DIY project?

Aluminum cans are absolutely recyclable, but paint cans are not.

Cans that contain chemicals such as paint are considered contaminated and can not be processed. Aerosol cans, like spray paint, are hazardous to our workers, trucks, and equipment.

Once you finish your project, make sure to properly dispose of your paint containers in your waste bin.

View a reference guide on what can and cannot go into our recycling containers.

If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at Town Hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our Public Services facility (2203 Lark Avenue), be sure to subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is only $13.35/month.
