Beginning Monday, April 21, 2025, there will be a detour for NORTHBOUND traffic ONLY starting at Soundside Road (by Mulligans) to Hollowell Street. ALL northbound traffic will need to detour. Businesses on the closed northbound section of South Croatan Highway will have “local traffic only” privileges for customers to access them. However, the road from north of Conch Street to Hollowell Street will be completely CLOSED - meaning you MUST turn at Conch Street to continue the detour if you are at a local business in the affected area. Large vehicles and trucks will need to go back southbound and use Soundside Road to continue north, due to the narrow width of Conch Street. 

This project is not expected to last longer than three weeks. 

As we all know, detours can be annoying and inconvenient, but please exercise caution and consideration for the workers who are just doing their jobs. 

Our last Dowdy Park Winter Market will be held on Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Come out, support local businesses, and shop fresh, seasonal products.

Get your spring cleaning started at our Community Shred Event on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 9 am - 12 pm at Nags Head's town hall at 5401 South Croatan Highway.

Join Jockey’s Ridge State Park for the opening reception of their upcoming art exhibit on Thursday, April 17 at 6 pm in the Visitor Center Community Room.

The exhibit will run from April 17 through May 11, 2025.

This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy local art and support the park.

Join us at Dowdy Park on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 10 a.m. for the Nags Head Police Department's annual Easter Egg Hunt! 

Be sure the children bring an Easter basket to fill with candy and prizes. There will be separate hunts for kids ages 1-5 and 6-10. 

The park is located at 3005 South Croatan Highway. Additional parking is available at Nags Head Elementary School.

There is no change to the sanitation collection schedule due to the Easter holiday; however, all Town administrative offices and the brush/bulk drop-off yard will be closed on Good Friday, April 18.

Residential and commercial collection for the week will be as regularly scheduled. 

For subscribers to the curbside recycling service, collection will be as regularly scheduled.

Reminder: our curbside brush/bulk curbside collection service is available until April 30.

The Dare County Public Works Department will host a three-day household hazardous waste collection event in three separate locations from Thursday, May 8, 2025 through Saturday, May 10, 2025. 

During this free event, Dare County residents and property owners can drop off a variety of hazardous materials—including motor oil in spill-proof containers, along with paints, polishes, varnishes, fluorescent lightbulbs, household cleaners, pesticides and insecticides, small batteries, automotive fluids, pool chemicals and more—for safe and convenient disposal at any of the following locations in Dare County during the designated times. 

•    Northern Beach Collection: Kitty Hawk Town Hall (101 Veterans Memorial Drive), 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025

•    Buxton Collection: Buxton Transfer Station, (47015 Buxton Back Road), 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025

•    Manteo Collection: Dare County Public Works (1018 Driftwood Drive), 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025

Plastic bags must not be placed in your curbside recycling cart or the Town's recycling containers, as they can become tangled in the recycling equipment. This type of equipment is not built to handle the thin plastic, which can lead to malfunctions and damage.

If you would like to recycle your bags, please return them to a participating store. Thank you for recycling right!
