This Valentine's Day choose another way to spread the love. Please consider skipping balloons this year, as they can have a lasting impact on our environment. Balloons are often made of materials like rubber, latex, or nylon that take a very long time to biodegrade, or they may not break down at all. When released, they can be ingested by wildlife, posing a threat to their health. Additionally, those shiny metallic mylar balloons have been known to float into power lines, causing outages and even fires. Let's make this Valentine's Day special not only for our loved ones but also for our precious community. Choose eco-friendly alternatives and celebrate with a conscience! Note: Balloons are prohibited from being released on any Town-owned property, any waters within the Town's zoning jurisdiction, and the beaches and dune areas in Nags Head. This regulation is in place to protect our environment and wildlife from pollution and harm. See Section 26-17 of our town code for more information.

We have tentatively scheduled resurfacing of Pond Avenue and South Lark Avenue, where our Public Services Complex is located, for Saturday morning, February 15. The work may result in temporary lane closures. Please use extra caution when travelling these streets. The Town’s bulk item/brush disposal facility at 2203 South Lark Avenue will be open from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm (reminder: a permit is required to use the facility). Asphalt resurfacing may impact traffic flow and temporarily limit access to properties between Satterfield Landing and South Lark Avenue and Eighth Street and South Lark Avenue. The work should be completed in one day.

Plastic containers like this are called clamshells. They're often marked with SPI codes 1 or 2 but are not accepted in curbside recycling because the material is too thin to process. Plastic bottles and jugs only, please! For a reference guide on what can and cannot go into our recycling containers, click here. Thank you for recycling right! If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at Town Hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our Public Services facility (2203 Lark Avenue), be sure to subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is only $13.35/month.
