Town of Nags Head Logo
Dangerous rip currents this weekend.

Hurricane Ernesto will remain a powerful hurricane and pass WELL to our east this weekend. However, large and powerful swells from Ernesto will produce strong rip currents, as well as several coastal threats over the next few days due to the higher than normal tides.

Nags Head Ocean Rescue will begin to reduce staffing starting today, August 16.

Five stands will be removed from the beach at the following accesses: Albatross, Town Hall, Grey Eagle, Ida, and Limulus.

Ten stands will remain in place until Labor Day: Abalone, Bonnett, Hollowell, Enterprise, Epstein, Forrest, Gulfstream, Hargrove, Indigo and Juncos.

After Labor Day, three stands will remain in place until September 30: Bonnett, Epstein, and Gulfstream.

Daily mobile units (trucks and ATV’s) will be based on available staff.

Plastic containers like this are called clamshells. They're often marked with SPI codes 1 or 2 but are not accepted in curbside recycling because the material is too thin to process. Plastic bottles and jugs only, please!
