What should I do if I'm caught in a rip current?

Q: What should I do if I’m caught in a rip current?

A: The most important thing to note is that rip currents pull you out, not under.

?? Don’t panic or swim against the current.

?? Yell and wave for help.

?? Stay afloat. Try to relax and float with the current until it weakens.

?? Swim parallel to the shore.

?? Once you no longer feel the pull of the current, then you can begin swimming to shore.

Use Caution After Storms

Use Caution After Storms

A key part of hurricane preparedness is understanding the dangers that remain well after a storm. This is NOT the time to put your guard down. Nearly half of hurricane fatalities occur after the storm.

Curbside bulk item/brush collection service extended

Normally, our curbside bulk item/brush collection service ends April 30 each year. However, this year, because our bulk/brush drop-off yard is still under construction (no opening date yet, but soon!), we are temporarily extending our curbside service.

We are excited for you to see the new drop-off yard and think you'll find it much easier to use.

When we know the new yard will be ready for customers, we'll announce it here and will let you know the last day for you to put items out for collection.

Memorial Day ceremony Nags Head Town Hall 5401 S Croatan Hwy, 11 am on May 27 2024

Please consider attending our annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 27 at 11 am. Held in front of the veterans memorial at Town Hall, this event serves as a tribute to the courageous men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to America.

This poignant occasion offers a moment of reflection and gratitude for their unwavering dedication to preserving the freedoms we hold dear. We encourage you to attend and stand with us as we pay homage to those who have bravely served our country. The ceremony will provide an opportunity for individuals to remember and honor family members, friends, and fellow citizens who have selflessly given their lives in defense of our nation.

In case of rain, the event will be held in our Board of Commissioners Room, also on the town hall campus.

Beans, beans they’re good for your heart…and the can is recyclable!!

Beans, beans they’re good for your heart…and the can is recyclable!!

For a quick recycling reference, click here: https://tfcrecycling.com/what-can-be-recycled/

Thank you for recycling right!

If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at town hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our public services facility (2200 Lark Avenue), subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is only $10.33/month thanks to a $5/month subsidy from the Town.

**Beginning June 1, there will be a change in the cost of the curbside recycling service, which will rise from $10.33/month to $13.35/month. In response to this adjustment, the Town has decided to augment its subsidy to TFC for each residence, increasing it from $5/month to $6.50/month, to help alleviate the impact of the price increase. If you are a current subscriber, you should have received an email about this from TFC.
