The November 7, 2023 municipal election results are in!

We'd like to welcome back Commissioner Kevin Brinkley, who was reelected to our Board, and welcome first-time commissioner Megan Lambert.  Both will be sworn in to their seats at our December 6, 2023 meeting.

At our January 3, 2024 Board of Commissioners meeting, we will be acknowledging the remarkable contributions of long-time commissioner, and former mayor, Renée Cahoon. Her unwavering commitment to Nags Head has left an indelible mark on our community, shaping its growth and progress for three decades. We hope you can join us as we express how grateful we are for the positive impact she's made in our town.

Both the December and January Board meetings will begin at 9 am and will be held in the Board of Commissioners room at our municipal complex at 5401 South Croatan Highway.

2023 Property Owner Survey Results
Nags Head Government Performance Survey Results 2023

During the summer of 2023, the Town conducted a survey of property owners to objectively assess their satisfaction with the Town and its service delivery and priorities.

Surveys were sent to a random sample of 3,000 property owners. Owners could either complete the survey online or via the sent survey. Later, a public link to the survey was promoted on this page for those who were not part of the original sample.

Town Manager Andy Garman presented the survey results to Nags Head's Board of Commissioners at their November 1, 2023 meeting.

Thank you to those of you who took the time to complete the survey. It took some time we know, but we will use your input as we work on our strategic plan.

View the results.

Operation Green Light in Dare County Nov 6-19 2023

We are joining Dare County and its municipalities in shining a light on the service of our veterans and their families through Operation Green Light for Veterans.

From November 6-19, shine a green light to honor our local vets. All it takes it changing one bulb to let our veterans know they are appreciated.

The Wall That Heals November 16-19, 2023

The Wall That Heals—a traveling, three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., that tours the country—will be on display in Dare County from November 16, 2023 through November 19, 2023 at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head.

Envirotech Unlimited Construction Services will be conducting cross-street culvert pipe installations in four separate locations along South Memorial Avenue between the Bainbridge Street intersection and the Curlew Street intersection on Monday, November 13 and Tuesday, November 14, weather permitting.

This work, part of the Old Nags Head Place Drainage Restoration project, will begin around 8 a.m. and is anticipated to be completed around 4 p.m. each day, conditions permitting. Traffic will be reduced to one lane while construction is ongoing. Advanced signage and traffic control will be employed while this work is conducted. A temporary gravel surface will be backfilled in the pipe trench and will remain in place until the contractor can schedule a permanent pavement patch.

Great news! The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management has awarded the Town $89,313 for improvements to the Governor Street public beach access. Improvements include construction of a new ADA-accessible elevated dune crossover with associative ADA-compliant parking stalls, and a shower station upfit.

The funding will play a pivotal role in enhancing the safety and accessibility of our cherished coastal resources, making them more enjoyable for residents and visitors alike.

Are napkins recyclable? Nope!

Napkins are paper, but are they recyclable?

Similar to pizza boxes, as a clean napkin, it can be recycled. Once you wipe those greasy fingers, the fibers become coated with that grease, making it unable to be recycled.

Being mindful of what goes in your curbside recycling bin is very helpful to the recycling process. Thank you for being committed to recycling!

If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at town hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our public services facility (2200 Lark Avenue), subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is only $10.33/month thanks to a $5/month subsidy from the Town.
