Do You Have Your County Reentry Permit?

As we head into the height of hurricane season, the National Hurricane Center is already watching four different disturbances that could develop into larger, possibly impactful storms. Have you made a hurricane plan for your family and do you have your Dare County reentry permit?

During a State of Emergency that requires a mandatory evacuation to ensure public safety, Dare County’s staged reentry process facilitates a safe and orderly return, allowing the recovery process to begin.

Visit DareNC.com/Reentry to learn how to apply for one of the following permits:

  • Priority One - Essential Personnel:
Utilities employees, government employees, medical employees and damage assessors.

Requirements for reentry: Reentry permit and matching government-issued ID.

  • Priority Two - Permanent Residents & Essential Personnel for Critical Businesses:
Permanent residents (with local address on valid government-issued ID), grocery store employees, food distributors, pharmacy employees, bank employees, gas station employees, property management employees, building supply store employees and hotel employees.

Requirements for reentry: Reentry permit and matching government-issued ID.

  • Priority Three - Non-Resident Property Owners & Non-Resident Employees of Non-Critical Businesses:

Requirements for reentry for non-resident property owners: Reentry permit (or current property tax bill/parcel data sheet) and matching government-issued ID.

Requirements for reentry for non-resident employees of non-critical businesses: Reentry permit and matching government-issued ID.

The Priority Four stage allows reentry for the general public and visitors; no reentry permit is required for Priority Four. Please note that reentry permits from previous years will not be accepted.

Have you dreamt of building a rain garden in your backyard? Would you like to do so for just 25% of the cost?

The Dare Soil & Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for the Community Conservation Assistance Program (CCAP).

The CCAP is a voluntary, incentive-based program designed to improve water quality through the installation of various best management practices (BMPs) on lands that are not directly involved with agricultural production.

BMPs include:

  • Marsh Sills
  • Shoreline Protection
  • Riparian Buffers
  • Cisterns
  • Rain Gardens
  • Bioretention Areas
  • Stormwater Wetlands
  • Permeable Pavement
  • Critical Area Plantings

Applications will be accepted until October 31, 2022, and are ranked based on local water quality priorities. If selected, landowners may receive a reimbursement up to 75 percent of the actual cost of the BMP, based on the state's annual cost list.

To apply, contact Dare Soil & Water at 252-475-5853 or Adam.Simon@DareNC.com.

Our fire equipment always attracts a crowd. Who wouldn't want to check out these big, important rigs? Both kids and adults had a chance to visit with our firefighters, such as Sklya Lamberto-Egan, at Kids Night at Dowdy Park on August 17.

The fire apparatus will likely make an appearance at the Police Department's annual National Night Out, also at Dowdy Park, on Tuesday, October 4, from 5-7 p.m. This is a great  opportunity to engage with the with our emergency responders. National Night Out helps to bring back a sense of community and provides a great opportunity to bring law enforcement and neighbors together under positive circumstances. We will have a bounce house, a dunking booth, a seatbelt simulator and other various vendors and kids activities. The police department will also be providing food for the event.
