Town of Nags Head
Parade safety image with pot of gold and green for St. Patrick's Day.

The St. Patrick's Day parade will take place on Sunday, March 20 at 1pm. The parade starts at Bladen Street and will travel north on South Virginia Dare trail to Driftwood Street.

If you plan on attending the event, please follow these safety tips to ensure all have a great and safe time!

  • Arrive early. This will give you plenty of time to find parking and a safe place to view the parade.
  • Select a meeting spot. It's easy to get separated in large groups of people so it is always wise to designate a meeting spot in the event that this happens.
  • Stay behind the barricades. If you see a barricade, stay behind it. They are in place not only for your safety, but for the safety of the parade participants as well.
  • Stay off of the parade route. While it's fun when parade participants like to engage with the crowd and pass out goodies, it's also good to remember to always stay in your area. Never go near any animals and stay visible when around all vehicles.
  • Dress for the weather. Check the weather before the event and dress accordingly. Be sure to bring extra layers.
  • Designate a driver. ALWAYS designate a sober driver. Never drive drunk.
  • Above all, have fun and stay safe.

It is recommended to have your septic system pumped every 3-5 years if your home is a primary residence, and up to once a year for rental homes. The Town offers free septic inspections, a $45 water bill credit when you have your system pumped, and low-interest loans for repairs and replacements up to $7,500. For more information check out the Todd D. Krafft Septic Health Initiative Program web site.

With the summer season right around the corner, have peace of mind knowing your septic system has been properly maintained.

What is a local government if it is not made up of representatives from the community and reflective of its community's values?

Volunteer participation ensures all voices are heard within a local government. The various boards and committees perform a vital role in the our community, often recommending policies and procedures that form the basis of many of the Town's decisions.

Get involved in your community by participating in a Town of Nags Head Board or Committee. Watch our latest video for more information.

We're finalizing plans to renovate Whalebone Park, which is located across from Jennette's Pier. We're still looking for input on what amenities or changes our community would like to see at the park.

Take the survey.

Water System Flushing Taking Place

The Town of Nags Head is conducting the annual maintenance flushing of its water system to remove sediment and other deposits that can build up over time.

If not removed, these materials may cause water quality deterioration, taste and odor problems, or discoloration of the water. Water may also stagnate in lesser used parts of the distribution system. This can result in degraded water quality.

Read the Water Flushing FAQs.

Work typically takes place between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.
When we are flushing the water lines in your area, you may observe any or all of the following conditions:

In addition, you are advised to raise the lever on automatic ice makers and to check the water quality prior to washing clothes or running automatic dishwashers.

The schedule may change due to emergencies and other workload priorities.
