Attention Red Sanitation Route Property Owners - Winter Trash Collection Schedule Begins October 1

The winter trash collection schedule will begin October 1 for properties on the red sanitation collection route. Therefore, if your property is on the red route, your trash will be collected on Tuesdays through April 30. There is no change to the collection schedule for the green or blue routes.

The red route encompasses properties in the Old Nags Head Cove neighborhood and properties north of Bark and Bainbridge Streets near Mile Post 11.5 that lie between South Virginia Dare Trail and US 158/South Croatan Highway, except those fronting South Virginia Dare Trail.

Curbside Bulk Item/Brush Collection Service Resumes October 1

The curbside bulk item/brush collection service for homeowners and residents resumes October 1, 2020.

As always, you can dispose of your furniture, white goods, yard brush, etc., at the Town's bulk item/brush collection yard, which is located on Lark Avenue, across from our Public Works facility at the north end of Nags Head. Please note that a Town-issued sticker is required to use the collection yard.

Bicyclist Safety Tips

Wear a helmet. It could save your life.
Use a light and reflex mirrors or reflective clothing when bicycling at night, and be as visible as possible.
Ride in the direction of traffic. Drivers may not be looking for you if you are riding the wrong way.
Obey all signs and signals. This includes stopping at stop signs and red lights.
Use all of your senses – watch and listen for cars, particularly at intersections and drive ways.
Avoid distractions such as listening to headphones or answering phones when riding.

League of Women Voters of Dare County to Hold Virtual Candidate Forums

The Dare County League of Women Voters, partnering with the North Carolina Coastal Federation, is sponsoring Virtual Candidate Forums this year for the Dare Board of Commissioners and Dare Board of Education races.

The Board of Commissioners Candidate Forum will take place on Tuesday, September 22 at 7 p.m. and the Board of Education Candidate Forum will take place on Thursday, September 24 at 7 p.m. Visit the League of Women Voters of Dare County web site for more information and to register for the forums, which will use the Zoom webinar platform.

Deadline to Vote in the Next Election is October 9

The upcoming November 3, 2020 General Election will feature several federal, state and local contests.

The voter registration deadline to vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, is Friday, October 9 at 5 p.m.

During Early Voting, voters can register to vote and cast their ballots at the same time. Check your voter registration status or register to vote at darenc.com/registertovote.

Voting for the November 3, 2020 General Election will take place at Nags Head Elementary. School and NOT at the Nags Head Board of Commissioners Room, which is where voting has taken place in the past.
