FOCUS Nags Head is a two-phase project to update the town's land use plan into a comprehensive plan and revise many of the town's ordinances into a consolidated unified development ordinance (UDO). The Board of Commissioners has appointed a citizen committee group for each process to provide initial feedback and act as a sounding board.
The Comprehensive Plan project incorporates studies and planning efforts recently completed, such as the Parks and Recreation Plan, Pedestrian Plan, and the Board of Commissioner's initiatives, with the 2010 Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) Land Use Plan. The Board of Commissioners adopted the FOCUS Comprehensive Plan on July 5, 2017.
The UDO will work to consolidate all development-related ordinances into one document. The overall goal of this project is to modernize the code with best management practices and consistent definitions, implement portions of the recently adopted Comprehensive Plan, and make the document user-friendly through the use of graphics, streamlined processes, and simple language.
