Cart Rollout Service
Sanitation Cart Rollout Service
May 1 - October 31
From May 1 through October 31 each year, properties with driveways on South Virginia Dare Trail and South Old Oregon Inlet Road can participate in a sanitation cart rollout service.
What does this mean? During the time period above, a Town of Nags Head contractor will move a property’s sanitation carts from the home to the streetside the afternoon before collection and return them to the home after collection. Since the collection is twice per week, the contractor will be visiting each property four times a week for the six-month service period.
Note that outside of the May 1 to October 31 timeframe, carts will not be managed by the Town's contractor; therefore, cart management will again be the responsibility of the homeowner, renter, or rental management company. During this time, our staff will move carts back from the right-of-way; however, they do not return them to the home.
We have placed stickers (see below) on the carts that are in the roll out program. If you notice that any of your carts do not have a sticker please contact us at Public Services 252-441-1122, we will arrange for a sticker to be placed.
There will be a fee for this service which will appear on your annual Town of Nags Head tax bill. The fee will be as follows:
Number of Bedrooms | Per Property Cost |
4 or less | $100 |
5-6 | $250 |
7 or more | $425 |
Service Exclusion
We understand that some of our property owners live in their homes year-round and therefore can easily manage their sanitation carts. If this is the case with your property, you can opt-out of this program for the next service months by filling out the exclusion form by June 1, 2023. This will exclude your property from the service for the months of July, August, September, and October 2023, and May and June 2024. Because the service fee is placed on a property's tax bill, the fee coincides with the Town's fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).
Unless you have an alternate and reliable means to move carts back and forth, we strongly recommend that all non-resident property owners participate in this service.
