Thank you to the Outer Banks History Center for this interesting post from their Facebook page. We thought it was appropriate because of the upcoming primary election on May 17, 2022.
The League of Women Voters of Dare County is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The Dare County group was formed in 1987 with fifteen members, with Diane Henderson serving as the unit representative. Each year the organization publishes the Citizens Guide, a directory of elected officials and local services; sponsors public candidate forums; and hosts programs that increase awareness of public services and community issues.

It is important to know the hazards that may exist for your property and what steps you can take to prepare your property to reduce the risks of flood damages. Flooding can occur during storm events such as hurricanes or simply from heavy rainfall and poor drainage of soil conditions. Floods can happen any time, anywhere.
Visit http://nagsheadnc.gov/213/Flood-Information for more information regarding planning for flood hazards in Nags Head.

Our estuarine shoreline is critical natural infrastructure that protects homes, roads, and other important community assets that are vulnerable to flooding, storm surge, and erosion. The Town wants to be proactive in managing our estuarine shoreline; therefore, we are developing a comprehensive plan to address the management of 17 miles of estuarine shoreline.
The plan will inventory existing shorelines and document historical changes; identify shoreline best management practices that can be used for each segment of the shoreline; explore legal barriers to shoreline management; and consider the impacts of future hazards, such as sea level rise, on the estuarine system.
As part of this project, it's important to understand community values and thoughts and how the shoreline is currently being used. Please help us with this project by sharing your thoughts and feelings about the estuarine shoreline.
Take the survey.

This Earth Day, think about how recycling helps our community. - Recycling 1 ton of paper saves 17 trees
- Recycle 1 aluminum can conserves enough energy to power a 60 watt light bulb for more than 4 hours
- Recycling 1 ton of plastic saves 1,000-2,000 gallons of gasoline
It may seem like the small action of throwing your soda can into the recycling bin instead trash won't make a difference, but as you can see, it all adds up for the benefit of our planet!
If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at town hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our public services facility (2200 Lark Avenue), subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is only $9/month thanks to a $5/month subsidy from the Town.
