Photo of Nags Head's Board of Commissioners in Board Room with 25 year employee Charlie Bliven.

Fleet Maintenance Superintendent Charlie Bliven was recently recognized by Nags Head's Board of Commissioners for 25 years of unwavering dedication to the Town.

Without Charlie and the crew in our garage, our fussy garbage trucks wouldn’t run, the ocean rescue ATVs would fall apart due to salt and sand, and our public safety vehicles wouldn’t be ready to respond to a crisis as quickly. And that's just one aspect of his responsibilities.

Thank you Charlie for all that you've done over the years to manage our fleet of equipment. We know there have been many late nights, early mornings, and spoiled weekends. But, despite the tough times, we also know that there have been many fine meals thanks to your cooking talents.

Standing with Charlie are, from left, Mayor Pro Tem Mike Siers, Commissioner Renée Cahoon, Mayor Ben Cahoon, and Commissioner Kevin Brinkley. Commissioner Bob Sanders is not pictured.

Blue box with QR code to click on to share your input with the Town of Nags Head about management of the town's estuarine shoreline.

Our estuarine shoreline is critical natural infrastructure that protects homes, roads, and other important community assets that are vulnerable to flooding, storm surge, and erosion. The Town wants to be proactive in managing our estuarine shoreline; therefore, we are developing a comprehensive plan to address the management of 17 miles of estuarine shoreline.

The plan will inventory existing shorelines and document historical changes; identify shoreline best management practices that can be used for each segment of the shoreline; explore legal barriers to shoreline management; and consider the impacts of future hazards, such as sea level rise, on the estuarine system.

As part of this project, it's important to understand community values and thoughts and how the shoreline is currently being used. Please help us with this project by sharing your thoughts and feelings about the estuarine shoreline.

Take the survey.

Why are some recyclables more desirable by companies than others? Some materials can be turned into new products more quickly and do not require additional resources to create those products. For instance, aluminum is perpetually recyclable. A recycled soda can will be back on the store shelf as a brand new can in around 30 days. Corrugated cardboard boxes are made from 75% recycled material and can be transformed from recycled material to finished products in as little as 14 days.

If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at town hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our public services facility (2200 Lark Avenue), subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is only $9/month thanks to a $5/month subsidy from the Town.
