Look for Dare County Property Revaluation Notices in the Mail

Dare County is mailing revaluation notices to property owners next week. Revaluation notices will contain the assessed value for the property as of January 1, 2020.
North Carolina law requires all counties to reappraise and revalue property at least once every eight years. All real property is assessed, including residential, commercial, and vacant land. The revaluation process ensures property values accurately reflect their market value, so the property tax burden is spread equitably among all property types. Dare County has 41,343 taxable parcels, of which approximately 93% are residential.

The revaluation notice is not a bill. It will include a mail-in appeal form, procedures for appeals and appeal deadlines. The revaluation notice does not need to be returned unless property owners appeal the assessment.

The new property values are effective on January 1, 2020. Tax bills with the updated values will be mailed in July. The tax bill for each property is based on the assessed value of the property and adopted county/municipal tax rates.

For more information about revaluation or the appeals process, please visit www.darenc.com/2020revaluation.
