Town of Nags Head
Water Line Maintenance Flushing Schedule 2020

Annual Water Line Flushing
Taking Place

The annual maintenance flushing of Nags Head's water system is underway. This work, which we know can be inconvenient at times, is critical to the health of the distribution system. Flushing typically takes place between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.

When we are flushing the water lines in your area, you may observe the following:
  • low water pressure
  • no water pressure
  • discolored water
In addition, please raise the lever on any automatic ice makers and check the water quality prior to washing clothes or running automatic dishwashers.

The schedule may change due to emergencies and other workload priorities.

If you have any questions, please call Nags Head's Public Works Department at 252-441-1122.

Monday, February 3 through Friday, February 7, 2020 Schedule
  • Eighth Street South to Barnes Street on both South Virginia Dare Trail and South Croatan Highway, including the Nags Head Pond, Nags Head Acres, and Vista Colony neighborhoods.
Multi-use path construction taking place in Nags Head winter/spring 2020.

West-Side Multi-Use Path
Construction Update

We're making Nags Head more walkable and bikeable by adding several sections of multi-use path in town over the next few months.

January 31, 2020 Construction Update - Multi-Use Path Along South Croatan Highway from West Soundside Road South to West Danube Street In Conjunction with Path Construction from Dune Street to Deering Street
RPC Contracting has concluded clearing the construction areas and installing erosion control measures on both the west and east sides of South Croatan Highway. Rough grading is underway along the west side of the highway, with fine grading and formwork preparation and installation to follow over the course of the next week, weather permitting. The water line installation will continue next week as crews work north towards Soundside Road, where a future connection will be made to a companion waterline project approaching from the north. Work will typically occur between the hours of 7 am and 6 pm, Monday – Friday.  Expect temporary lane closures in the active construction work zone area.

Please use caution while driving past the construction areas. We appreciate your patience and hope to see you on the new path this summer!

For questions related to the multi-use path project work, please contact David Ryan, P.E. at 252.441.6221.
